UK Jobs Boom: Update

The number of people out of work has fallen to its lowest level for 18 months, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The number of people in work has now risen to 29.7 million; finally some positive news for job seekers. These figures were announced on the same day McDonald’s publicised that it is creating 2,500 new jobs in the UK.

CV-Library has seen an increase in job vacancies being advertised on its site since the beginning of 2013. There are now over 60,000 live vacancies from recruitment agencies and direct employers across the UK.

Office for National Statistics Latest Update:

  • Unemployment rate fell to 7.7% in the three months to November
  • Number of people employed full time has risen by 113,000
  • Fall in part-time employment of 23,000
  • People out of work for more than two years fell by 10,000
  • Increase of 1,000 for the number of 16-24 year olds out of work
  • Number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance fell to 1.56 million
  • Number of people in work now 29.7 million
